The Hermitage first opened its doors in 1967, firstly as a playgroup and then later as a preschool, and has been providing a safe, caring and stimulating environment for children for over 40 years.
Many parents who now send their children to us attended themselves when they were toddlers.
As a member of the Pre-School Learning Alliance, we are committed to the philosophy of children learning through play in an environment where they feel secure and cared for as individuals. As such, we fully support the Early Years Foundation Stage framework
We are registered with and inspected by Ofsted. The results of our latest inspection, in March 2011, can be viewed on the Ofsted website.
The Hermitage Preschool meets in The Hermitage, adjacent to St Peters Church in the heart of the village, with excellent facilities and an outdoor play area which, weather permitting, is used every day. There is also free car parking for drop off and pick up.
As a village preschool, we have strong links with the community and the local schools, allowing the transition to "big school" when the time comes, to be easy and relaxed as possible, alongside friends the children have already made at preschool.
We provide flexible daily sessions during term time, Monday to Friday 9.00am - 12.00pm, for all children aged from 2 to 5 years. We are registered for 26 children for each session and have an excellent staff/child ratio. Further information about admissions can be found here. Take a look at a typical session at the preschool.
Our staff are well qualified and experienced in working with young children and are a well established team. All our staff are trained in First Aid, Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Food Preparation and they have all undergone a basic sign language course. We also have dedicated SENCO and Safeguarding representatives. We provide continuous support for our staff to undergo related training or study when the opportunities arise.
The Hermitage Preschool is very much run by the parents and carers of the children. There are many ways you can become involved that will benefit both you and your child and shape the future of the preschool. Learn more about how you can support your child’s education, by contacting our committee.
